About Daniel Yao

Dan grew up in Queens, New York, where he developed a strong sense of community and a passion for helping others. He pursued his education at Queens College, studying a diverse array of subjects including accounting, taxation, finance, and computer systems. This broad academic foundation equipped him with essential skills.

After completing his studies, Dan embarked on a successful career as a forensic auditor, and later a Special Investigator/Detective-Investigator with the New York State Attorney General (NYS AG). In this role, he honed his investigative skills and gained valuable experience in legal and regulatory matters.  Dan has been unofficially recognized as one of the few, and perhaps the only former AG alum whose career encompassed three distinct areas: financial auditing, criminal investigation, and legal advocacy. His dedication and expertise eventually led him to earn his Juris Doctor from New York Law School, where he further deepened his knowledge of the law and its applications.

During her days at the NYS AG’s office, his work included a wide range of government investigations into Medicaid and Medicare frauds, elder and patient abuses, money laundering and structuring, and widespread medical facility regulatory noncompliance.  He had a deep understanding and professional experiences in anti-kickback statutes, and the federal Stark Law, as well as the money laundering laws.  Upon establishing his firm, Dan had litigated and resolved hundreds of matters, and earned distinctions in the commercial, trust and estate, and personal injury litigation areas.  He also is a “go-to” guy for many medical providers within the downstate areas, who relies on Dan and his firm for good and accurate guidance on practice rules in the healthcare industry. Several of Dan’s cases had been published and reported by the news.

Dan remains deeply connected to New York Law School, where he is an active mentor for students and alumni. He is passionate about guiding the next generation of legal professionals, sharing his insights and experiences to help them navigate their careers.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dan is deeply devoted to his faith and community. He frequently volunteers at the John Bowne Christian Ministry, where he contributes his time and resources to support those in need. His commitment to service reflects his belief in giving back and making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Dan is supported by his loving wife, who shares his values and dedication to family. Together, they are the proud parents of three wonderful children, who inspire Dan every day to strive for excellence and to instill the same values of integrity and service in the next generation.
